Good store for nursing bras in Mont. Co?

Anonymous
I guess I'm also willing to drive to Tysons (I'm in Potomac), but I prefer not to.

Last pregnancy, I was petrified nursing wouldn't go well, so I never invested in good nursing bras. Well, "nursing is going ok so far" turned into 23 months of nursing. I want some good, supportive bras this time! Where should I buy them?

You may disagree if you are larger in the chest but I liked the soft cup one I just bought from Mimi. Granted, you cannot rely on their staff for help (the woman at White Flint) tried to convince me that a 34 was larger than than 38!) but if you are willing to just go and try some on, I liked their model without underwire, with the pull-down flap. Medela makes a similar one that I found to be very tight and restrictive regardless of the size. I have also liked soft-cup sleep bras (Medela makes one) but I found one that works from Motherhood Maternity, too.

If you want to be fitted, some other women have recommended Nordstrom for that although I am not sure they sell the bras in the store (may be on-line only), and I imagine Sylene in Friendship Heights carries nursing bras.

I haven't been there but I've heard that they do great fittings at Cheryl's Health Boutique in Rockville and I've also heard good things about Nordstrom.

Let me know where you end up. I'll be right behind you.

How about making a trip to the breastfeeding center downtown? www.breastfeedingcenter.org
They have lots of different brands and styles of nursing bras, very knowledgeable staff, and while you're there you can take a class (if you by chance want a refresher) or pick up any supplies you might need -- pumps/pump parts, books, slings, etc. I think they even have saturday hours in case going during the week doesn't work for you.

All that said, I found my dream nursing bra in a store in NYC after two years of breastfeeding (I've been breastfeeding continuously for three years now, two kids, and probably have a few more years to go especially if I have another baby) but it took me that long to realize that yes, it is worth it to have an awesome bra. The one I love is made by Anita, which is a German company so it is kind of hard to find in the US. Wouldn't hurt to call around or search online to see if you can find it. Oh, here's the awesome bra: http://www.anita.com/us/en/148,3,0,0,39180__products-detail.htm

OP here. Thank you so much for suggesting Cheryl's Health Boutique. The fitter was very nice and professional, and helped me buy one Bravado bra. She wasn't pushy at all, and suggested I wait until my milk came in to buy more. I was also able to buy replacement parts for my pump - including the tubing. Buy Buy Baby had told me I'd have to order the tubing directly from Medela.

I had good luck with the nursing bras I got at the breastfeeding center at Holy Cross Hospital. It is in Holy Cross' satellite education center on Dameron Ave.
