Just to clarify - do want a whole smoked salmon (as your post implies) or do you want a large package of smoked salmon/lox slices? Two different things entirely.

Hmm...never thought of a whole smoked salmon. That's a thought. Was thinking the sliced smoked salmon...

if it is for a breakfast brunch-served with bagels, bread then sliced lox. If it is a dinner, makes more sense to get a whole fish

Wegmans does some really beautiful smoked fish platters through their catering.

It is for dinner. Do you buy a whole smoked salmon? What about the bones issue?

Parkway deli on grubb road just off east west highway in silver spring does great platters. They even have belly lox which is the really salty kind that I love.

You'd save at least $30 on it if you're buying from Costco. I'd go there and pay the $50 membership or whatever it is and throw some TP and paper towels in your cart while you're there. Call it a day.
