Sidwell Friends - chances of admission...

Anonymous
I apologize if this thread already exists - looking for answers to a few basic questions re Sidwell - if you have answers to any, I would be grateful:

1. What is the rate of acceptance, generally speaking?
2. What is the likelihood of financial aid for a couple earning approximately $100k/year?
3. Do the children of Sidwell employees get preference on either the financial or acceptance front?
4. Do siblings of Sidwell students get any preference w/r/t admissions?

1) Probably about 1/9 depending on the grade and if you have any connection to the school (Quaker, Sibling, Staff, Alum) in which case your odd have about doubled.

2) Fairly decent

3) Yes on both

4) Siblings are included in the pool of other priorities (see #1) but there is no guarantee of admission.

FYI - do not count on financial aid if you have any savings or equity in your home. You have to earn 100k and have no spare cash to qualify. And yes, if you do have equity in your home you are expected to take out a loan to pay for school.

As for your chances, I think it depends on the grade.

I know only handfull of schools offer a tuition subsidy for employees and out of those, maybe half offer it to faculty alone, not administrative staff. I actually turned down a job offer at one of the more prestigious schools because they did not offer a discount on tuition. Unfortunately, it went all the way to the offer stage before I found out that there was no subsidy. This is after a one-on-one meeting with the head of the school where he complained that they have a issue finding students to bridge-the-gap between their low income financial aid students and the wealthy. Hello, the gap would be staff/faculty children.

I hope this helps - good luck.
