Questions regarding the genetics department @ Children's hospital in DC.
Any one dealt with Dr.Rosenbaum or his counselor, Rhonda Schonberg? Any recommendations on doctors there who specialize with genetics? Thanks! |
| Yes, he is amazing! I would not go to anyone else but him. He is considered to be best in the country. |

No, doubt. We've liked him as well.
But working with that office in general is a nightmare. We've been struggling to get a simple letter to support our case with the school, the county, state etc in regards to a rare genetic disorder our DS has been diagnosed with. It's been over a month now. |

Dr. Rosenbaum is top notch. He genuinely cares about his patients and the man is 100% dedicated to his work. He is a highly regarded researcher and very busy clinician and yet when we were desperate for a referral he took the time to get back to us as soon as he could with a name.
I will say I was annoyed when he told us just because things were going well for DC didn't mean they would as demands increased, but I just wanted to live in my happy bubble. The reality check got us looking into resources to help DC as things got harder and low and behold Dr. R was right and we were prepared. I agree with PP that CNMC is a nightmare. The phone maze is atrocious. The billing department has messed up close to 50% of the time we have dealt with them for various doctors. I usually have to schedule appointments 3-10 months in advance depending on the doctor. |
| We saw Rhonda on her own for a counseling session (whether to do pgd). She was friendly and helpful. Rosenbaum has the reputation but there are others that you can see, and probably get in to see more quickly. |
| They are both wonderful. I would recommend them! |
| Who else in that group is good? |
| Dr. Lichter-Konecki said due to a chromosome disorder that it was amazing that my child was not just a vegetable. My child needs a little help, but does most everything on his own. She may know her stuff on genetics and metabolism, but her bedside manor is atrocious. It took 1 year to get her report returned to us and that was after having a couple doctors at CNMC ask for it. |
