Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo Wee Free Men and rest of those by Neil Gaimain My kids love the How to Tame Your Dragon series and the Dragon in our Sock drawer one though I'm not sure that I think they are the best. Oh...and if she hasn't read the American Girl books - they are all good reads. I especially like Kit, Felicity, Kirsten and Kaya - some serious girl power there. |

My DD is dying to get her hands on Percy Jackson Lightning Thief. |
Island of the Blue Dolphis

I totally forgot about the Witch of Black Bird Pond. I LOVED that book. Also, from classics The Secret Garden is great. I second the Percy Jackson books, my 9 year old is really into them right now. Has she already read Harry Potter? |
The Keys to the Kingdom series, by Garth Nix. Maybe more for 4th-5th grade, though. |
Agree with both of these and Harry Potter! |
The Allie Finkle series by Meg Cabot
I love these books because she's 9, going on 10 instead of 9 going on 14. |
