Wonderbag Portable Slow Cooker

Anonymous
Has anyone used this? It would replace a tradition crock pot set on low, right? Not sure I understand the appeal for at home use, expect saving electricity.

Slow Cooking with Wonderbag

To slow cook, simply bring food to a boil on a stove, let simmer (5 minutes for rice and grains, 15 minutes for root vegetables, meat or presoaked beans), then put the pot with lid into your Wonderbag, put the pillow top on top of the pot, close tightly, and slow cook to perfection up to 12 hours. Because it is not on direct heat, it will never overcook or burn. Wonderbag is perfect for bringing delicious home cooked meals to potlucks, dinner parties, tailgating, or camping. It’s perfect for holidays when stove and counter space are at a premium.

I drive a Prius, wonder if that would work. Do I even have a manifold?

I don't think it actually saves much electricity since you need to get the food hotter to begin with. You can also do the same thing more effectively with a cooler or thermos.

It would probably work on the flux capacitor.

My husband drives a Fiat, guess we'd have to worry about the hamsters that power his car eating our dinner.

This will work. It's called "basket cooking" and I first learned about it in the cookbook "Extending the Table" (which is an awesome cookbook, btw.)
As the description says, it's particularly wonderful for regions where cooking fuel is scarce/expensive such as Africa.
You can make a homemade version by getting box, add your pot and some cushions.
My mom uses this method every year at thanksgiving for the potatoes, but she was frantically looking for her box this year (thinking it might have been used to mail something). I'm going to get this for her for Xmas.
Thanks, OP!!! One less item to buy for Xmas!

Yep it is similar to a thermal vacuum cooking pot. You bring the contents of the pot to the cooking temperature, place it in a thermal container and it cooks. It will hold cooking temperature for 4-5 hours, after which it keep things warm depending on the thermal properties. The pros are you don't have to have power on when you are not at home, childern can access food without turning on the stove/range, good temperature control( crockpots can burn on the bottem or boil and dry out meats), and people who come home at different times can eat a hot/warm meal. The thermal vacuum cooking pot have better thermals.
