what elementary school has tbe best principal

I know we often times hear the negative but are there any parents who can name their childs elementary school and principal if they have a strong or good leader.

Very subjective question but I would say Carolyn Poole at Perrywood Elementary in Largo. Since her tenure as Principal the math and reading scores have improved. The school still has a long way to go as far test scores are concerned. The passage rate of the reading, math, and science test needs to be above 90% for all grades tested.

Thanks anymore, I know there are some good leaders out there. Although the schools are not the best! I will have a child in the public schools next year. I have not heard many positives but there has to be someone who is trying against all the odds. I have heard great things about the principal at Gladys noon Spellman. I believe her last name is Holiday. I do not know if the test scores are where they should be but they say she is a good principal.

Jill Walker and her staff at Woodmore Elementary.

I vote for Taryn Savoy of Yorktown Elementary on Race Track Rd. in Bowie! She is more than a principal to the kids; she's a mom and expects as much from her Yorktown kids as she does her own. Miss Osborne is a fantastic guidance counselor that backs her up, as well.

+1 to Taryn Savoy.

Principal Holiday at Spellman is fantastic. We have a child who goes there I can't say enough about Holiday. She is very responsive to email and/or phone calls. I emailed her during the first week of school and she called me back with in a couple of hours.

When my child started K this year, there were 28 kids per class. A bunch of parents got together and wrote an email about the number of kids in the classes etc. She said she was also concerned about and was working on getting another teacher but in the meantime she worked the schedule in such a way that there was always and aid or reading/math specialist during the core teaching hours. And she lobbied the county and worked her budget in such a way that they got another K teacher by mid October.

Another example is when children started K and the teacher noted that they were way above grade level in Math and Reading. Holiday gave the parents the options of moving the kids up a grade or having them pulled out of the class and into the upper grade during math and/or reading instruction. She is also really on working expanding the TAG program at the school.

The school isn't perfect but we plan to keep our child there even if they get into the TAG school (which we have heard mixed reviews on).

She welcomes volunteers in the school....including members of community who don't have children attending Spellman (retired people etc.) She works closely with the PTA etc.

She knows most of the kids by name and refers to herself as the Mom of the school.

The school has it's problems but the Principal and all the staff I have had contact are fantastic

And Spellman is technically under enrolled so kids are supposed to be able to go if they live out of bounds.
