What to wear to briskly walk the neighborhood

Ok I'm new here and freezing to death. My running/hiking fitness regimen has just gone out the window (and been supplemented by Thanksgiving feasts…not a good situation; haven't even been out of the house since Wednesday…I figure I'm putting on 1 pound every 3 hours!

DH has just gone for a run. I thought I'd start with walking through the neighborhood. What should I be wearing from the waist down? My jeans are so cold.

A pair of old pantyhose (or two) under your jeans. Will keep your legs much warmer.

Layers. If you're too hot, or too cold, honey, you may go back home to adjust accordingly. What do you think?

Pantyhose under jeans to go for a fast walk? Really? Do you also recommend a pair of big white puffy Reebok high tops and a Members Only jacket?

How about a pair of training or yoga pants designed for exercise/movement? If you're moving fast enough that should be plenty warm. Wear a knit hat - if your head is warm, the rest of you will feel warmer too. Agree with layers, but don't think it's needed on the bottom if you wear the right pants, especially in today's weather.

Questions like this blow my mind.

I have walked every night for the last 3 years with my neighbor...rain, cold, sweat or shine. For cold weather...get those tight fitting "active wear" pants at TJ Maxx (something like $15)...wear a cap or hat of some sort, gloves, sweater, and active wear jacket...I never wear winter coats to walk...too bulky.

Let yourself get cold, you'll burn more calories that way. As long as you're not in danger of frostbite, it's good for your metabolism.

Buy a pair of running tights to go under your pants or jeans. Roadrunner Sports has some decent house-brand ones that won't break the bank.

I have a pair of "winter" tights (under armor brand) that I wear when its under 25 degrees or so. Other than that a hat, vest, and a long sleeved shirt is all I want. Its good to get cold, keeps ya movin!
