I live in Montgomery County, MD and am looking for a developmental pediatrician for my 6-year-old son. I am willing to travel far for a good one. Has anyone tried Dr. Cathy McGrath? Any and all recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

Do a search in the SN forum. Many, many reviews.

We've seen Dr. McGrath for regular peds visits and found her very nice, clear in her recommendations, and good with our kids. But I haven't seen her for any developmental issues.

No! She is useless.

In our experience, she was not as thoughtful or thorough as I would have liked. Took a history with our child in the room, spent very little time worh our child, and did not request information from teachers.

Agree with searching in the Special Needs Forum -- lots of opinions there. I saw Dr Belsito when we lived in Maryland and like her a lot. I understand her waiting list is very long for first appointments now. Dr Shapiro only sees very young kids (under 4 or 5) and his practice is often closed. He has started classes that are open to parents of all ages - I took one and found it very helpful. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of developmental peds in the area. Good luck!

Sorry for the ignorance, but what is a developmental pediatrician? Do they specialize in milestones, etc?
