Franklin Montessori/play date

Anonymous
If Franklin called to schedule a playdate, does that mean my child has a spot there...or do they use the playdates to select students? I didn't ask...wonder if anyone knows?

It's part of the admissions process. It does not mean you have a slot.

Actually, when my son started at Franklin two years ago, getting an interview did mean that your child was accepted. The interview is very laid back. It's just to see if your child is developmentally ready for school. Good luck!

Is the interview different from the playdate? When we applied a couple of years ago, we were told that the playdate was part of the assessment. I agree that the experience was very laid back.

There was really no "interview." It was just a play date. My son attends Franklin now and loves it. He's a strong-willed kid, and his teacher is amazing with him.

PP again. Upon further reflection, I do recall that we were notified of our daughter's acceptance almost immediately--within a day or two after the playdate--which lends support to the idea that if a child is asked for a playdate, he/she's in unless he/she turns out to be truly unready. This was, however, for entry for fall 2006.

My child (who was accepted after the playdate) attended the playdate with a child who I saw kick the teacher at the playdate. I did not see the child ever again. It seems as if a playdate means you made the "first cut".

Does anyone know if the Franklin visits are just with a teacher or is it a playdate with a group of kids?

When we did it, a couple of years back, there was a small group of children (3 or 4, I think) and one teacher.

OP - do you recall your application date? I sent ours in around early Nov and havent been scheduled yet. I called to confirm they received it and they told us they were still working thru their waitlist and had not started new applicant interviews yet. This was about 2-3 wks ago... Thanks!

OP: I sent my application in over a year ago because they used to accept children at 2.5 and my son was 2.5 last September. They changed the entry age but kept my application for the following year. So I have no idea where they are on the list...

Oh goodness! That explains the delay, and I bet they had a bunch of leftover applicants as a result of the age change... well hopefully they get to ours before they fill up, but in the meantime I'm freaking out looking for our backup plan!
