Or the minecraft torch flashlight that you can hook to the wall.

Along the line of that, Walmart has a handcrank, no battery flashlight/transister radio for $20.00. My boys could play with it for hours.

A big real magnifying glass, large magnet, flashlight ans compass. You can call it an explorer kit.
