Is it worth renting out VS leaving it vacant?
My biggest fear is the house being trashed. I also just spent thousands on new carpeting and not everyone respects carpet. I've never been a landlord before, any advice? Where do I start? |
| You would actually consider leaving your house vacant for two years? |
| Rent it to an Asian family that takes their shoes off in the house. |
| But they tend to cook a lot of fish. If you have carpeting the smell of oil and fish is pretty distinct. |
| I'm 11:35. Forgot to add, I'm Asian (Taiwanese). So saying this from my own family experience |
| Rent to a family with no pets and geeky, bookish girls between the ages of 7 and 14. |
| Believe it or not, it's harder on a house to be vacant. |
| We are looking for a house to rent in that timeframe! Where is it? |
| I'd really like to hear from those who have BTDT. Is it best to hire a realtor to manage the property? |

I rented out my house for one year. I am actually glad I personally screened the tenants. I got to talk to each one and had a good feel for them. We went with a family that we just "clicked" with. And they were perfect. Took care of our house as if it were there own. I don't believe a management company would have done the same level of inspection. They look if they can pay or not.
On a more practical note - how much was the carpeting? I imagine the rent for two years would be more than the cost of the carpeting. |
| We rent out a house. Have a property management company. NEVER leave a home unoccupied for two years, that is crazy. No one would insure you, the pipes would deteriorate, the list goes on.... |
the carpeting would be equal to about 4 months in rent payments |
