of course they could have stopped him. he was FIVE. do you think they can’t stop a 5 year old from walking into traffic? |
| If I were the Mom, I’d be grateful to the officers who found and safely secured the child. Sounds like Mom is trying to use the situation to get rich. “In my day” my ass would have been whopped for leaving school. |
Why does it "sound like he probably was?" Hmmmmmm? Based on your knowledge of the case, what makes you say this? You know that he: -Left the school, for whatever reason and -Was crying, terrified, and hesitated to go with cops who were threatening him Oh, you can say that's not the whole story, and of course it's not. But there's very little in the story which comprises 100% of your information (unless you were there!), that tells you he "was probably a terror." Even people who think the cops were in the wrong think surely there was something egregiously wrong with the little boy and are happy to label him "a terror." Sheesh. |
There you go. |
There was a mention to the mom being upset that the school told police about his academic and disciplinary records. So, it sounds like the child had some behavioral issues. It also alluded to the fact the officers asked how the child is punished at home and they ran with the response. They were out of line but not to the tune of $1 million. There is a lot more going on with this child and I hope the family is getting the help they need. |
They can block him but if he walks around the adults the adults legally cannot put hands on or restrain the child. |
I would have been too scared of my parents do do something like that. I don't spank at all but I probably would if my child ever did something like that as you need something to get their attention. |
They aren’t allowed to block the child from exiting the door, and can’t restrain the child. |
Upstaff all your community services first. If crime drops, then fine, reduce police. But shifting resources is like me stopping my blood pressure medication as soon as I start a diet. Stupid. |
Sometimes it's not systemic racism and it's just really bad police work. |
I mean a lot of people on this thread are jumping to conclusions that the five year old child is at fault. Is that okay with you? |
MCPS staff are not allowed to block a child from exiting the building. I understand the no restraining, but, they can't block a door? |
Sometimes it is both. In this case, you appear to have two abusive cops who have been partnered with one another, apparently creating an even more toxic dynamic because there's no "check" on the abusive behavior. You also have a (white) school staff that may have failed to step in and stop the abuse, once the officers returned the child to school grounds. Race is in that equation. Did white staff feel constrained in intervening because the officers were Black, and so was the child? Or did they feel constrained because MCPS staff are instructed to let law enforcement do their jobs without interference? Or did they just freeze, because white folks haven't been in these situations enough to know how to de-escalate the situation? The bulk of the blame here falls on the abusive cops, but we can't ignore the role that race plays in how/whether white people get involved when Black officers are abusing a Black child. |
So two wrongs make a right? |
NP. You are irredeemable. Toddler steals cookie, dad beats him with a belt Teen gets a bad grade, parents kick him out of the house Man sells loose cigarettes, police kill him Both parties did something wrong, real important to focus on the wrongness on both sides, right? An important use of our time here. I am disgusted. |
