LOL. All charged now. I did a screen shot of the current boundaries last night before plugging in. Forgot to crop out the extra bits on that last one posted. Must be time for HH!

We're zoned W-L and I'd be fine with this larger school but on IF they actually implement smaller learning communities within it, maybe it's magnet programs, maybe just some division where kids stay with the same cohort across their 4 years. Right now all I hear is that they are creating a "smaller" learning group for 9th graders by pulling them out and putting them in a different building. That's STILL around 900 9th graders if we're talking about a 3700-4000 kid school. That's not a "smaller" community. I know they do some team break-up for the current 9th grade but then that is not continued into 10-12th grade.

Anonymous wrote:seriously WL folks, time to think positivie thoughts re: Ed Ctr and work to make it less unbearable to you or your children. nothing dramatic is going to happen - redrawing boundaries, new HS, fight CB for land, etc., none of that. it just doesn't work that way.

Plopping 4000 kids into one school is pretty dramatic.

for the last time nobody is supporting or even thinking that. it's catchy statement to stoke fear and mobilize moms of toddlers but also so baseless.

but keep throwing that out there and see what that'll get you.

why not focus on how to incorporate the added seats at Ed Ctr so they would be the least disruptive to WL students.

Where would the Ed Center kids eat, watch the variety show, play sports, etc?

they eat at Cafeteria at Ed Ctr.

they watch whatever at Black Box Theater at Ed Ctr.

they play sports at their home school.

next question.

How big would be the three home schools - including the kids from all of the choice schools? There still are large #s of kids at the home schools.

3,200 each give or take? more competition for popular sports/activities, for sure, but they may also be able to offer a few less popular sports/activities that would otherwise not be an option.

Doesn't seem to be any great way to geographically distribute kids. Maybe a choice school would make more sense.

Wait. Does this put Buckingham at Yorktown?
Would love to see this get proposed. Oh lord the meetings would be epic.

It does seem like, in the future, you could live very close to Yorktown and be zoned to Kenmore or W-L instead.

No you could not coz it's never going to happen.

If they use the Kenmore site, families currently zoned WL and Yorktown will be redrawn to it. There is no way around it.

Which is why it will never happen

Enjoy your 4500+ schools!

People are in denial about the obvious fact that every available option in APS is highly unsatisfactory to many people. Their kids are not going to get the education they expected, where they expected it.

Guys, guys, guys,

You're missing the fact that eventually we're going to have to do EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE OPTIONS.

We're going to have to add seats to the Ed Center. We're gonna have to build at Kenmore. We're going to have to add seats to the Career center. We have that many kids coming down the pipe.

Right now the question is just where to start.
