Maureen Brody was TEAR GASSED on January 6th during the riots. On what planet do you think that’s the type we need on the school board?? |
Really? She was that brave? I want to know more about her. |
And she ran for the House of Delegates and didn’t get that, so now she’s trying for SB. Seems just like another person hoping to use the SB spot as a their political “in”. |
I agree that the Omeish, Gamarra, Cohen, and most of the school board were awful. I don't want to vote for any Dems. I'm over the perpetual gender ideologies, religious holidays, and virtue signaling. That said, I've read up on the R candidates listed and most appear to be hard core Trumpers who support school vouchers. In the case of Priscilla Destafano, she has her kids in private school and not FCPS, which rubs me the wrong way. All the FCPS candidates are terrible. |
“Brave”? Ok. Whatever. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/sarahmimms/jan-6-republicans-ballot-election-day |
Go look at the white supremacist gatherings and chat groups. You might find her there. “Maureen Brody, also attended the Jan. 6 “Stop the Steal” rally that turned into insurrection; she once posted on Gab, the white supremacist-friendly social media platform, that she got near enough to the Capitol that she and others were targeted with tear gas. Footage found by anti-fascist researchers also appears to show her on the building’s steps — a restricted area. Months later, Maureen Brody was named as the Republican nominee for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates. During her campaign — on June 21, 2021 — she posted a photo to Gab showing her standing behind a table draped with an America First flag. She was running in a heavily Democratic district and lost in the general election by 30 points.” (America First is a white supremacy group) https://news.yahoo.com/jan-6-rioter-arrested-assaulting-173103273.html |
So the Republicans want FCPS to push for conversion therapy now? Is that why they keep bringing up sexuality and gender topics? |
Some posters in this thread seem to denigrate well educated women for a reason only known to them. Let me introduce you to the author of this article: Laura Bryant Hanford is a mother of five and is actively involved in school policy and religious freedom issues in Virginia, where she lives with her family. She served from 2015 to 2018 on Fairfax County Public Schools' Family Life Education Curriculum Advisory Committee. She was the lead congressional staff drafter of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. She also served at the U.S. Embassy in Romania as the officer in charge of human rights, focusing on ethnic minorities, women, and refugees. She is a graduate of Princeton University. You may want to take your time to read what she has to say about FCPS in this article. If you have children in the system, it should really concern you. |
Jan 6th is a historical myth. I'll keep an open mind for all claims/rumors/evidences.
But I do think Maureen Brody's points are good. https://brodyforschoolboard.com/ Refocus curriculum on fundamentals • Students will graduate ready to serve the country, earn a living wage, or get a degree. • Phonics, math, coding, scientific method, and grammar will take priority. Improve low-performing schools • Add back languages, accelerated learning, and academic clubs and programs that have been systematically reduced. • There will no longer be academic and extracurricular deserts in this county Modernize school infrastructure • Put high-speed internet, vocational technology, working HVAC, and accessible clean water in every school. Get spending under control • Fairfax County schools are tens of millions of dollars in the hole. • End the waste and focus resources on academics and security. • Conduct an independent audit. |
So the people who support her are Jan 6th deniers? That tracks. |
The people who are on the board now aren't even running again, they are that unpopular. The bar is low. I don't think these are the greatest people, but unless we get more balance on the board, no one remotely logical will want to run. Who wants to sit on a board with reasonable thought and have a board think they are too far right for something like textbooks in the classroom? There has to be some balance in order for there to be divergence of thought. The people on the board now are extreme. The people running on the democratic side are extreme. It's not about each of them. it's about restoring some balance. |
This lines up with every one of the Republican school board candidates. They’re doing their best to hide it as much as possible but it’s not going to work. |
Again. "Yes, we did it! But you stop talking about it!" |
Some of the people on the board now will even cherry pick who from the public gets to speak during school board meetings and who gets to post on their public pages. They don't even disclose the writings they get from the public. It's not a democracy. |
You can’t get a reasonable balance with nutters. Look at what the nutters in Congress are doing right now. They aren’t going to fix anything, only make things worse. |
