DC Region not on the top 10 list of million dollar homes, we are still very affordable stop whining

People can stop whining about it being expensive here.

We are still very affordable relative to job opportunities, average housing prices and average income

Because we're not 90210 - we are suddenly affordable?

There was a thread the other day about what people were willing to give up. I think that's just it. No one wants to give up anything and the still want the price to be reasonable.

There are reasonably priced houses to be had in this area. But they're not in the best school districts, with all neighbors having high incomes, in a walkable neighborhood, and new construction.

People on this board don't want what they can afford.

Exactly, the issue is DC attract these types of people that compromise on nothing, very Type A.

If you think that DC is affordable, you probably have lived only in DC or other expensive cities. There are many more affordable cities than DC. I lived in Texas, paid $155K for a beautiful new 3 bdrm home in a fantastic neighborhood. That allowed us to pay off all my graduate school loans, buy two new cars, and get off to a good start financially. That just isn't possible in DC. It's true, there are some affordable areas, but even those are pretty darn pricey. I'd tell my kids to move elsewhere to get a head start and move back to this area when they make more money.

Wouldn't it make more sense to accumulate wealth here and then move out to cheap-o texas
?

This is not the case for us. We bought an older townhouse further out because it is what we could afford. Would I like a single family closer in? Sure! But that's not realistic for us and I'm not going to whine about it.

It's hard to accumulate wealth when you can't pay down your debt because your monthly expenses are too high.

God forbid that I'd have to live in Texas for any longer than we did. I love DC and it is a great place to live -- just not so much if you don't make a lot of money.

On average, incorporating the whole region, yes.

But certain choice zip codes, no. Certain zip codes are among the most $$$$$$$$$ in the US.

I have lived in DC and I have lived in Los Angeles. Both places were equally expensive, but L.A. was a nicer place to live.

That's just, like, your opinion, man.

(I've also lived in both cities, but I would never have the nerve to assert one is better than the other without qualifying something like "IN MY OPINION." I think DC is the nicer place to live, but I understand YMMV.)
