Repeating 9th grade

Anonymous
My son is attending a wcac school and has been having academic issues. I'm considering having him repeat his 9th grade year at another school. He also plays lacrosse and I don't want him to lose eligibility in high school or college. Does anyone know the rules or the gotchas around repeating 9th grade?

I know this is a controversial subject and prefer not debate the pros and cons of holding a kid back a year. I'm interested in learning if it's even possible without compromising his eligibility.

From what I have been told and I also found on a blog...

Students are only eligible to compete in sports for 8 consecutive semesters once they start high school.

But, I have heard that some kids have received a medical waiver.

Can you talk to your athletic director? You have not even played a game yet so maybe the "compete" portion has not started yet. Just guessing here.

Sorry your son is having a hard time with his grades.
