Wine consumption

Anonymous
I have had a really great maternity leave. I go back to work on Monday. On leave, I have had two, sometimes three glasses of wine at night when the baby goes down. It has felt like vacation.

I haven't noticed ill effects, and have only expressed milk and poured it out a couple of times when I felt slightly buzzy before going to bed.

Reflecting back on my leave, I am wondering if my wine consumption has been a bit excessive. I guess if I am posting and wondering, it is, but I don't feel like it has been a problem.

I will miss it when I have to go to sleep with the baby to get up for work, and not enjoy this new ritual with my husband.

Don't feel guilty. Sounds like you have had a great maternity leave. Couldn't you still enjoy a glass of wine occasionally with DH before you go to bed.

three glasses nightly is a lot. I would take a serious look at your drinking and why.

I'm actually sitting here w/kiddos in bed drinking a glass of wine. I'm trying to pace myself through since I find having a slight hangover much more difficult to deal w/ on non work days w/kids home! 2-3 every night would be a tad excessive for me - I do try to limit it to 2 glass 2-3x a week - but if you don't feel in pain the next day, why not?

I would ask the doc if drinking wine is ok when you are still breastfeeding, b/c it may go to the milk and your baby may be drinking wine too. I would like to have a glass of champagne when I'll give birth, but I will wait for my doc advice.

Try limiting yourself to one glass and then switching to perrier or something else non-alcoholic but that still feels like a "treat." I find myself wanting a glass of wine just for the sense of doing something for me at the end of a long day. Good luck.

OP, what wine do you drink? Asking because I want to try something new and I am not very knowledgeable about wines...

I'm not the OP but I'd recommend Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc. Really good and not expensive. Not sure if you like white but it's very good. The best red I've tried recently is Ray's Station Cabernet Sauvignon. Incredible!

Enjoy your glass of champagne. Just have it right after you nurse.

I know that my mom drank wine when she breast fed me, and I happen to think I turned out just fine.

I think it tastes like sour grapes. Pun intended.

(Seriously, if you like wine, you might not like this)

Sorry, I know this is off topic but I can't resist.

Did you know the Mayflower was fully loaded with beer?
