When do you get results of your first blood test?

Sorry for the naive question

I'm going in for my blood test to confirm my first pregnancy on Monday, and am wondering if I will get the results then or if the sample is sent to a lab?

Thanks!

you will probably have to wait a few days. if you have taken a pregnancy test and gotten a positive result, you are pregnant.

Thanks! Do you usually get a number or is it just a yes or no?

it is usually just a yes or no unless there is reason to be concerned about your HcG level

How far along are you? I always had bloodwork plus an ultrasound at my first appointment.

there are 2 different kinds of blood pregancy tests. One is a quantitative. This just tells the doctor yes or no. The other is called a qualitative. Most labs use the threshold of 5 - so anything over 5 is positive and anything under 5 is negative. I have no idea how long it takes to get results at a regular obgyn because I see a specialist and they call that afternoon with the results. Congratulations.

It depends - on how long you are (you may also have an ultrasound if you are around the 8 week mark) and why you think you are pregnant (some nut cases out there "think" they are pregnant b/c they're late and not because of the HPT).

The blood test confirms preg. based on the high hCG numbers. It won't tell you that you are X weeks pregnants, just that you are.

Most doc. offices send out blood work, but yours may be different (like a specialist or if your doc. office is in the hospital, etc.).

Just ask - your doc - not us strangers on dcum
