Since 2009, my net worth has increased rapidly. Did anyone beat me?

Anonymous
I was devastated when the market tanked. In 2009, I was down to $900K. Now I am at $3 million!!! That is quite an increase in a short period of time.
Did anyone do better?

0P what was your net worth on the first day of 2008?
Anonymous
$7 million last year.

$1.7 to $2.9 in that time. I thought that was pretty good, especially since my income is $120k and I have 2 kids in private full freight.

Would OP and PPs care to specify how these feats came to pass?

Luck, stocks, DC real estate.

What a tasteless question, and I am so tasteless as to actually answer you

My net worth was multiplied by more than 20 since 2009, but since I started at about 5K... I still have some way to go before a comfortable retirement.

I picked winning stocks.

My net worth has gone down since 2009. Medical bills, laid off. You single?

I'm OP. To clarify, I went from $1.4 down to 900K (at the bottom of the market). The loss was mostly from stocks and a declining real estate portfolio. Since that bottom, I slowly ADDED a bit more to stocks. My real estate picked up last year. I had tenants that paid lots of rent with almost no vacancies and no problems. Our salaries increased quite a bit. I lived temporarily outside of NOVA which lowered living expenses. I had $1 million in very low interest debt, which increases my exposure to stocks and real estate. In hindsight, I wish I had borrowed even more. I have excellent credit and could have used my properties to go further into debt.

I'm rather amazed that the few things above resulted in such a fast increase. I did not take major risks to do this. I believe others that took bigger risks could have beaten this increase.
