I am a bit concerned about my child in aftercare being one of the youngest among minimally supervised kids.
A friend of mine decided on Nursery school K so that this would not be an issue, her child would be the oldest. Has anyone had any trouble with a young child being bullied or adversely influence in aftercare? |
We chose an elementary school with good aftercare - the kindergarteners were segregated from the big kids until April. |
I have two kids who are younger (than second grade) who have been in aftercare since PK, and there has never been any kind of issue like this. |
Your use of the term "minimally supervised" raises concern. There are still required staff:student ratios even in aftercare. In a well-run program, being the youngest child shouldn't be cause for concern, it could even be developmentally advantageous for the right child. Bottom line: bullying is never acceptable and neither is minimal supervision. You should discuss your concerns with the school's director immediately. |
At DS' school in Arlington, the kindergarteners have their own room |
