Birthing Class - Private

Does anyone know how I can get a private birthing class rather than attending the group classes that are offered at hospitals?

I did this with my hubby and loved it--the teacher was the former head nurse of maternity at Virginia Hospital Center--I can't remember her name but will post tomorrow after I call my OB to get the name. It's a wonderful option if you want that one on one attention and also you can cater the class to what you are most interested in. ex. I was interested in what to do after the baby was born i.e. how soon to nurse and also taking care of baby so she spent a lot of time on this and it was helpful. In any event, it cost I think 150 and she was at our house for several hours.

I think we met with the same woman at Virginia Hospital Center and yes, she was awesome. We met her at the Dr's office and she gave us a tour even. I was referred to her through my OB/GYn office so maybe they can help you out. I was seeing Rossi, Piness, et al. at the time. I believe she lives in Manassas or somewhere out "west".

Oh gosh I forgot to call yesterday--I will call when the office opens up today and yes I think PP and I are talking about the same person as I recall that she had to drive quite a bit to get to our home in Mclean--maybe it was Charlottesvill even. In any event, I will post before noon.

Also, I was a little off on money as I dug out the invoice pricing was as follows

We did the $250. for 2 1/2 hours in our home

the other options were

semi private-two couples--$200

group (5-6 couples) -$175

Keep in mind that this was 21 months ago so could go up or not--just not sure

But..again, I thought she was wonderful and I really liked that we got to focus on issues that were really worrisome to me. You can tell her you got the reccomend from one of Dr. Bannon's patients as I think she prices special for Dr. Bannon and other docs that she is close with.

You can also go to the lamaze.org website, find an instructor near you and arrange for private class that way. I went to a group class but had a friend who arranged for a private class.

Did a WONDERFUL private birth class with Marylou Tietz, Lamaze instructor. In the summertime she runs a bed & breakfast with private birth classes at Bethany Beach and it is the best weekend ever! But she offers the classes locally during the rest of the year. You can get her contact info on her website, http://beachbirthclass.com/. Her prices are reasonable. We are doing a refresher 2 hour birth class with her for $150.

I just finished the class with Jessica Webb. I was the OP. Thanks to the PP who recommended her. She is super bright. Overall the class was fabulous. Both husband and I found the class extremely informative. It is the best $250 I could possibly spend. Jessica is fantastic and I highly recommend the class to anyone who can afford it.
