Looking for either recipes or restaurants or take outs for Thanksgiving.
It'll be just 2 of us. Anyone have done this and have recommendations? |

My favorite kind of pre-kid Thanksgiving!
One year we did Cornish game hens. I forget what vegetable or starch. And a nice bottle of wine in front of the fireplace! One year we got beautiful juicy steaks and grilled those. |
You could do a turkey breast already cooked - Whole Foods and Balducci's offer this. Plus they both have pre made sides. Very, very easy. No muss, no fuss. |
| Thank you |
| How is the turkey breast from balduccis? Is it good? |
I'm the Balducci's poster, but I don't know, sorry. I looked into it but ended up doing WF instead. The turkey breast from WF is OK, a bit on the dry side, but if you baste it when you reheat it, it's fine. I've done the already-cooked turkey breast from WF 3 times, and it really is great for very small (2-3 people) gatherings. |

When we didn't have kids, and there were only two of us, we would always cook non-traditional Thanksgiving meals, we both don’t like turkey meat or ham in a way it is usually cooked. One example is a rack of lamb; asparagus, and/or roasted vegetables, potatoes, lots of herbs. It all can be done in a simple and elegant way. Ina Garten has good recipes.
If you like potatoes, I found that Jamie Oliver’s version tastes absolutely great. Boil pieces; add olive oil, lemon juice, some whole seed mustard, salt, pepper to taste and a lot of herbs (a mix of fresh cilantro, parsley, and dill). These potatoes are so full of flavor, much healthier than regular mashed ones and look beautiful. If I recall correctly I found this recipe in his 30-minutes meals collection. And his lamb is also great. |
| It's also very, very easy to do a turkey breast in the crockpot. Put it in there and, in a separate bowl, mix together one envelope of onion soup mix and one can of whole berry cranberry sauce. Then dump all this on top of the turkey breast . Cook on low approx. 8 hours. YUM. It will be so tender and the oniony-cran flavors mix together BEAUTIFULLY. This combo also works well with pork loin too. |
| I was just at Hill Country BBQ yesterday and they're offering both pick-up and dine-in options. Smoked turkey is DELICIOUS! |
| When I've done Thanksgiving for two, we decided to treat ourselves to expensive food we really liked. And serve a simple turkey breast on the side. We've done salmon and turkey and lobster and turkey and had a wonderful feast for two that would be very expensive to do for more. |
| I made an eggplant and root vegetable biryani one year, and it was totally fabulous (if you like going completely non-traditional). I got the recipe out of an old book so I can't pull it from online anyway, but there's an idea. |
love them - good to know!! |
| Cornish games hens or a good quality organic chicken are (IMO) much juicier and more flavorful than turkey OR go nontraditional. |
This is such a good idea. Make something really scrumptious that you don't get all that often. Doesn't have to be the traditional! For me it would be stuffed crepes or something equally intricate, since I like to cook. |
