Deer Ticks... lawn prevention that works

Anonymous
My welcome to NoVa... got bit by a tick and now on antibiotics... trying to look to the future. Anyone have any success on prevention for the lawn that has worked. Worried about my dog and children moving forward.

Since part of the life cycle is on field mice we scatter around a those little tubes with the pyrethrin impregnanted cotton -- not sure of the brand name. The mice take the cotton bits back to use in their nests, but any tick larvae that land on them die when the go back to the next.

Frontline for the pets, Deet for humans, cut grass regularly, daily tick checks.

Not OP, but what time of year do you do this? Spring? (I'm also new to NoVa and scared about the tick situation. My kids are jumping into piles of leaves…)
TIA!
