Suit for Teenage Boy

Anonymous
My 16yo needs to dress up occasionally and he has a sport coat/suit jacket and dress pants, shirts, and ties for this purpose. But, he told me recently that he'd like a suit.

Given that he doesn't work in an office , I'd like to avoid spending a fortune. At the same time I'd like reasonably quality (no shiny polyester). He wears a boys size 18/20 or a men's size small in sweaters etc. so I could probably go to a men's shop/department rather than boys.

Where can I take him locally?

Thanks.

Check out Nordstrom Rack, Marshall's and Syms.

H & M, more trendy
Sears, more classic
Both decent prices.

If he's still in boys sizes (mine is the same size) I'd go to brooks brothers during a sale as the boys stuff is pretty reasonable.

Look for consignment stores. They often have better quality used clothing than thrift stores. I am in theater and several times I have found nice gently used suits for under $50. I've even worn those suits after the show and they are fine.

Depends on his size but if he can where men's sizes, you can get very good deals at Marshalls and T J Maxx, at the stores that have suits (often $100-150). Macys also always has sales and you can find suits for $200 most any day. These are likely to be better quality than Kohls or Sears but it all depends, including how long you think he might wear it. Nordstrom Rack is higher priced but also nicer stuff and you might get better prices on alterations, as the alterations on suits can easily hit $40-50.

Sym's went out of business several years ago. I miss them as they were my go to for things like this.

We got our 14 y.o. a suit at Nordstrom. He needed tailoring (beanpole) and they did a fantastic job.

We've always done nordstrom. They tailor for free when you buy, and for cheap later, so you can buy a bit large, have it taken in, then later let out. Two years wear for the price of one!

At first I read the topic as "Slut for Teenage Boy" and was like WTF! I guess it's finally time to get some glasses....
