| I'd be out the door at 6:45 a.m. heading to work. We have kids and are thinking Arlington or Bethesda/Chevy Chase areas because of schools, but it seems like the rush hour commutes are kind of hellish. Any suggestions? |
| Capitol Hill. |
| Well, I live on Capitol Hill and send my kids to excellent public schools. A commute of zero! |
| The red, orange and blue metro lines all go to the Hill. Pick one. |

Forget Bethesda/Chevy Chase. Arlington, maybe, but I doubt it. Does your 20-minute window include garage to desk? Will you have reserved parking close to your office?
I'd look at living on the Hill itself. |
| Hillcrest. |
| OP - DH has ruled out living in D.C., and because of child care issues a car will be necessary in the afternoon, so Metro is a no-go. I have a reserved parking space at work. |
| DC. period. |

Then you will not be getting to work in 20 minutes. Forty, maybe. |
| Crystal City/Pentagon City |

We lived on Captiol Hill for years. It can take close to 20 minutes to get from one area of the Hill to the other- there are so many stoplights. We used to always comment that it took almost 10 minutes to officially get off the Hill from Eastern Market.
Your best bet is probably Arlington, which can take 40+ minutes depending on bridge traffic. If you lived in Chevy Chase, MD, you could go down North Capitol and it would probably also take 30-40 minutes. |
| How about somewhere in PG very accessible to 295 -Hyattsville or CP. |
| At 6:45 you can get to Capitol Hill in 25 minutes from Bethesda if you are just over the line off Mass/Macarthur (Westgate, Westmoreland Hills, Sumner for example). You can even do it at 7:30. I did it for years. Getting home is another story. There is no way to do it in 25 mins except at maybe 1 pm. |

I live on Capitol Hill and love it! Lots of new development and costs are on the rise. Buy now before it's too late to get in.
Lots of families. I was shocked by how tight in the parent community is here. |
