I have previously been a very active person - a runner and a (sprint) triathlete and an open water swimmer. Last year I got hurt, though, and I'm just now getting over it. I don't think I can train for running any more. I have too much pain in my hip and knees.
I am making an exercise class 2 X per week, but that's not enough. Should I just concentrate on swimming? Are there any other options? |
Yoga. |
| If you are injured swimming is a very good choice. But swimming can be overdone too. Be careful about shoulder / rotater cuff injury. |
| Definitely yoga. You should start strength training, too. Look for some exercises that can help with stabilization or find a p/t or trainer with experience in that area to give you guidance. |
| Yoga and/or pilates. Both of those will help strengthen and tone. If you get cleared to run in the future, start with a C25K type program. My dad went from running to bicycling after a hip replacement. More convenient than swimming, unless you have a pool. |
| Thanks. I'm addiing yoga, and in the spring I'll start training with swimming again. I can't train for tris, but I can train for open water swims. Swimming was always my best out of three, anyway. |
