Ceiling color

We need to repaint our ceiling. Our walls are a beige color, and we have white crown molding around the room. What color should the ceiling be? White, or beige to match the walls? Other?

Getting ready to list in a few months, so interested from a buying perspective also.

Thanks!

White, white, white.

White- beige will make the room feel like a giant beige box and honestly I find it disconcerting and tacky when the ceiling is something other than white.

BM Ceiling White.

Yes, the color is called "ceiling white."

Thanks for the responses. I was leaning white, but it helped to have confirmation.

NO, not white!!!

Especially if you have large rooms, it brings down the ceiling.

What you must do is paint your ceiling one tone lighter than your walls. That way the room all flows seamlessly together and makes the moldings pop (they should be painted a glossy color). This method actually enlarges a room because the eye has no visual contrast to refer to between ceiling and wall, so everything recedes into undefined space. One tone lighter is usually the best because it is hardly noticeable yet prevents a dark-looking ceiling compared to your walls. If your walls are very dark, then you might want to go several tones lighter on the ceiling, but it does not sound as though you would need that.

I could see this working for neutrally-toned rooms, like beige or gray, but what if the room is painted a dark or bold color, like red or emerald green?

White!! It brightens any room, and helps highlight wall colors other than white.

I feel like the ceiling should be a different color than the crown molding - otherwise it just all blends together.

White is fairly standard. Going one shade closer to your wall color would look very good as well. You can tint ceiling white paint, it's not etched in stone that it has to be white.

My ceilings are the color of my walls.

The one thing I wouldn't do is paint ceilings with white gloss paint. It looks horrible. My neighbor did that and it looks horrible.

No, not this.

White.

Our previous owner has beige-ish ceilings.

It just looks dirty, especially against crisp white molding.

Go with BM ceiling white. You can't go wrong. (And I am a Behr girl)
