If you do, how do you rinse it?
Do you rinse all types of rice - white rice, brown rice, basmati rice? I never did, but a friend mentioned doing it and I wonder if other do! |
| Sometimes. My mom used to, but I have no idea why. So sometimes I do out of habit and sometimes I don't bother. |
| Yes. In a fine mesh strainer. |
| I don't. I'm too lazy unless I'm cooking for others. Then I dump it in a colander and run it under the tap for about a minute while shaking to make sure it all gets rinsed. |
| Yes, but because DH insist, he says this is necessary to clean it and make it taste better. FWIW he is Asian and in his home country rice is a huge staple, not sure if its a cultural thing. |
| no. it makes it mushy. i just do equal rice and cold water, turn it on high, and when it boils reduce the heat. |

Yes because rice is coated on "vitamins" that the government thinks we need to thrive. But since we have a good diet overall, I wash it because the end result tastes much better.
I put it in a fine strain mesh and rinse it with cold water for a few sec (maybe 30 or so) until the water is clear. The water that comes out in the beginning is cloudy whitish. |
| Never |

| Yes. All types. Especially important for sushi rice. |
Why? |
| Why, sushi rice? |
Is this true of all rice, or just the rice labelled 'enriched'? DH usually gets the organic brown jasmine (I think?) rice and I never noted whether or not it was enriched. Will check when I get home. |
I'm Asian and my mom always rinsed rice. Is it really necessary to rinse it though to get it clean? You boil the water anyway - won't that sanitize it? |

I've started to since reading about arsenic in rice.
