| I noticed they finally opened their new location at the Mosaic District this past week. I'm always on the lookout for good Tex-Mex and the options around here seem pretty limited. Is this one any good? |
| I saw it this week and wondered the same thing, too! |
| I'm from Texas & love the original. I have no idea how the VA location is. If I were in the area, I'd definitely try it. I especially love their enchalidas - good enchalidas are hard to find outside of TX. |
That's good to know. If the Texas branches are good, hopefully this new location will be good as well! We used to like Austin Grill when we first moved to the area 10+ years ago, but our last meal there was so bad I've taken them off our list completely. |
| Just topping this to see if anyone's tried it yet. |
| Went there last weekend. I had tamales and was underwhelmed. I'm from Boston, so I'm not a Mexican food snob. I can't remember what my husband had but it was also pretty meh. It was definitely doing a good business, though. Maybe we just ordered poorly. It was not so bad that I wouldn't give it another try. It seems like a fun place for drinks, too. |

This is the OP. Just wanted to update my own thread. We finally tried it out tonight. Both DH and I had the enchiladas and thought they were very good. The seasoned black beans that come on the side were good as well. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed with their salsa, which was way too tomato-y. It reminded me a lot of spicy, watered-down ketchup. Next time I think we'll skip it and try guacamole or pico instead.
As an aside, we waited 10 minutes for a table even at 5:45 on a Sunday night, so I'm guessing there'd be a pretty significant wait if you go at prime time on Friday or Saturday. FYI, they do have a children's menu and we saw quite a few kids. |
