Is there a typical timeframe for registration? |
I think maybe Feb or March? There is an "orientation" in late April, although I think it's more for their benefit than yours so it's pretty skippable. I have the impression that signing up before the summer can help them with teacher assignments. |
February sounds about right |
The K orientation is kind of nice for your child; s/he gets to see the school and meet the teachers. I know in MCPS the individual schools have different days for orientation, but they are usually advertised at libraries/community centers, neighborhood listservs, and the school websites. |
Our school has several meetings for new parents throughout the year. You can sign the kids up for the open house which is usually in april or may. |
Our neighborhood school has orientation in May and puts up signs a few weeks in advance, telling prospective parents to call for a packet. But from what I've seen on DCUM, it varies from school to school. Some send the packet out early, some have you complete everything at orientation. Orientations seem to be in April or May.
I wouldn't skip orientation--it's a benefit for you and your child. |
I think I signed up DD in March? And we had orientation in May. |
+1 Our school liked to start getting an idea of numbers for budget/planning purposes around February. Once theyhad the contact info you would actually get the orientation packet a few weeks before a late April or early May orientation date. |
