How many dc with high WPPSI scores (98-99) did not get into Top 3 for Pre-K?

Anonymous
I've been reading many parents comment that their dc had WPPSI scores of 99% and still did not get into the Top 3 schools. Trying to figure out if these are just some urban myths or real.

If your dc had a high WPPSI, please list score and if they applying for pre-K or K.

Did they get into other schools, please list name of school. Thanks for sharing.

99th%-ile, (retook WPPSI), waitlisted at above plus Maret for K.

Currently at DC public and doing fine.

So you think we were lying before, but now we'll tell the truth?

DC, 99th percentile, waitlisted at Maret, GDS, Sidwell, Beauvoir for K

99th percentile, great kid, great play dates and recs. No from Sidwell, Beauvoir for PREK. Yes from WES

I'm not the OP. But PPs, did you get any feedback from any of the ADs that might shed some light on why the waitlist?

99th percentile, applied for K, waitlisted at GDS; didn't apply to any other schools.

Did AD give any advice about what to do for reapplying the following year for K that would have improved your chances besides re-taking WPPSI?

I don't think there is any magic bullet. A high WPPSI doesn't guarantee admission, just as a 1600 (or whatever it is now; showing my age) on the SAT doesn't guarantee you a spot in college.

I'll come out and admit that my DC got a 91% on her WPPSI, and the Director of my preschool said that the score was good enough for any of these schools. We got into our second choice after getting wait listed at Maret.

Love this question. I know you don't really mean it like this, PP, but it sounds kind of like, "So, what exactly IS wrong with your child?" I only spoke to one AD and was told DC would have been a great fit for the class, but there just wasn't enough space. Claimed to like us, like the kid. What else are they going to tell you?

99.6%, waitlisted everywhere. DC needs extra attention and they were right not to take him if they couldn't provide it. He is doing beautifully at McLean.

I'd be interested in hearing how many of you had connections or wealth to speak of. I don't want to criticize anybody, or put anybody on the spot, and fortunately this is all anonymous. But you hear over and over on these boards (including from school staff) that connections and wealth matter. An informal, non-scientific poll might be one more way of getting at the truth around this issue.

Thanks. I didn't mean it like that, and I appreciate your giving me the benefit of the doubt.

Oh, I probably asked the same question myself last year. Fortunately it's all a blur.

98th percentile - applied for K to Maret, GDS, Beauvoir ended up on a neverending wait list. DC attends WIS and is quite happy there. BTW, many of DC's classmates had excellent scores as well and also did not get in to their top 3 (for some they applied to 5 and got into the last choice only).

IMHO, the parents determine who will get in to the most competetive schools. Kindergarten is a tougher year, in general, than other years. If you (the parents) don't stand out in some way from the hundreds of other applicants, then you should save the application fee.

When it comes to admissions, it really won't matter if your child has a 99th or 92nd score at the top schools.
