| Finishing up a major remodel/addition and after doing tons of research for kitchen appliances I just don't have the energy or care to put the same effort into the washer and dryer. I think I want a front loader washer that is reasonably efficient, same with dryer. I don't need tons of bells and whistles. Reliable, efficient, reasonably priced....and go! Thank you! |
| Whirlpool HE (or Maytag). I think they are the same thing. |
| ls or samsung steam. for samsung steam dryer you will need another pan under the dryer. |
| Definitely front loading. SO much nicer! Then you can fold and have stuff on top. |
| Just consider the vibration issue with a front loader if you are going to have it on a second floor (coming from someone who learned the hard way...). If your floors aren't reinforced enough, it will shake your whole house especially if you don't have it on anti-vibration pads. |
| I went with Speed Queens (top loader) and have been really pleased. I just wanted it to wash and dry clothes efficiently. I was wary of shorter warranties on the machines with eletrical panels and read such mixed reviews about front loaders that I just went with the tried and true. GL! |

Love love love my front loader. We are on our 2nd in 15 years.
Clothes come out great. less water and very easy to wash fine washables. We also have the whirlpool. we stayed away from the steam feature as that feature can cause issues. No problems at all with smell. |
| LG energy start front loader-happy with it! |
| I think I'm getting the Whirlpool Duet - I heard the newer models rectify any earlier issues and my colleague indicates no vibration issues - we are doing a 2nd floor laundry. Curious if others have feedback on these. |

LG top loader. Just got one and am very happy. It is a Consumer Reports best buy. Reviews were good. It is a quiet washer and dryer- the biggest selling feature for me.
Be careful with front loaders- most of the reviews that I read listed long wash times as a big complaint. Who has close to 2 hours to wait for a load to be done if you have several loads to wash? |

Love our Whirlpool Duet Sport. 6 years now, no problems.
It's in a basement, so can't speak to the vibration-on-upper-floors issue. Given the spin speed, I can see how that could be a thing. |
+1 Do a search on this board for the same topic; model numbers, etc. have been discussed several times in the past few months. |
| Don't do front loaders if you want less maintainance bc it is a common complaint that the rubber ring in the front loaders result in a mildewy smell from water taht has no where to go. I always have to wipe mine off after everytime I use the washing machine which can be avoided with top loaders. Oh and you have to leave the door open too. |

If I had to do it all over again, I would get a top-loading HE washing machine to get the benefit of HE without the mildewy smell..
Also, don't spend much on dryers - the cheap ones dry just as effectively. |

I got a GE top loader -now is $539 at lowes. Item #: 395165.
Free delivery and installation. The 3.9 cu holds queen comforters. Works perfectly and I don't have to think about it. Also got the cheap dryer to match. |
