I am in the eternal 2ww and bought a HPT yesterday. I'm trying not to take it and wait until my beta on Tuesday but I don't know if I'll make it. So my question is, for those who took a HPT- was the result the same as your beta test? I'm on progesterone injections, which I know can give false positives (so I've heard). I did a FET fwiw.
Thanks! |
| Progesterone injections cannot give you a false positive. The only thing that will give you a false positive is if you had an HCG trigger shot and that is still in your system. |
| I took a HPT 9 days after my day 5 transfer and it was positive (and correct). Depending on where you are in your cycle - I would go ahead and test! |
|
There is no such thing as a false positive unless its the trigger.
I got a positive at 9dpo. My beta the next day was 220, I think. So,in theory, a HPT should've shown positive at 8dpo or even 7dpo. |
|
HPTs were always reliable for me - both negatively and positively. You do need to wait long enough post transfer for a pregnancy to be detectible of course, but if you are 9 days post transfer (or so) then you should get an accurate result.
I was always glad I tested first - especially when it was negative - as it allowed me to better manage the news from the doctor's office when they called me at work. Good luck! |
| OP here- thanks everyone! I guess I'm trying to hold off on testing because when I did IVF I didn't test and got a bfp, so I'm being superstitious about it. Silly, I know. I shouldn't have bought the test because now it's just sitting on my dresser staring at me... |
| I found that doing testing myself (negative and positive results) were much less stressful if I knew the results beforehand. Waiting for that call is torture! The only tough spot is when you get a BFP, but it turns out to be a chemical. But I test at the same time every day to watch the line get darker (it's an addiction)! I've always gotten positives by 6dp5dt or 11 dpo. |
| Those tests are extremely accurate and also very sensitive. lord know why they are so vilified by REs. |
OP here. Well I broke down and tested. No second line . I'm 8dp5dt so I assume it would show up if positive. My only hope is that I waited over 30 minutes to look at the stick (because I'm a mega wimp), and maybe the line had faded?!? But I'm not optimistic. This is my first bfn and I'm crushed.

| Hugs to you, OP. I'm not sure, but don't they recommend testing in the AM? (Specifically, the first time you urinate?) |
The box said it didn't matter, although the am urine was strongest. I just re-read directions though, and it said not to read a negative test after ten minutes. What does that mean? That it could fade?! |
| yes it could fade. Just test again in the morning first urine. |
|
I've never had a positive test fade. They stay for years.
Don't read a negative test after 10 minutes means if it's negative at 10 mins, it's negative and don't keep checking it to see if it's turning positive. |
+1. I still have the positive tests from my pregnancy. I don't think they fade, but it could be that it was too early to test, depending on how sensitive your test is. |
|
They do fade, but not until a few weeks later. Ones i have from just a few weeks ago are discolored and faded.
But I have ones from years ago that are intact. I think they are made differently today. |
