| My son will be starting PS3 next year and there are two options within walking distance of my home - 1) DCPS PS3- free & have about 50/50 or less chance of getting in via lottery, or 2) Private full-time preschool at $1,500+/month. I have a full-time nanny and need to keep her for baby #2 on the way. If we don't get into the DCPS preschool, I just don't see how could spend 60K+ a year on childcare. Preschool will need to be in walking distance so nanny can pick-up son from school easily, so it seems these are my only two options (no charter schools nearby). Is this a normal predicament to be in, and we just suffer through it for the next few years? I suppose I could keep my son home with the nanny, but he seems ready for school. |
The private fulltime preschool is for 10 months a year? or is it yearround? I would look for a part time preschool and use the nanny more. |
| It sounds like you nanny is very expensive, what do you pay her? I am in MoCo and pay $450 a week for a ft nanny. My friends in Dc pay 15-17 per hr |
+1. Or you could do the FT preschool and a nanny share for DC2. |
| Full-time preschool is really just daycare. All center based daycares have circle time, art time, story time, etc. You either put both kids in daycare or have a nanny to watch both kids and enroll your older in a pre-school program that is 2-3 times a week for 2-3hrs. Many churches do this. you coujd also use the nanny for a few mos until baby is older to go to daycare. Or you spend 60k a year. |
I agree. Why pay for full time daycare for your older child and a full time nanny for the younger one? Either put them both in daycare or have them both with the nanny and put the older one in a part time - 3 mornings a week preschool program. |
| OP here.. Thanks for the advice. I ideally would like a part time preschool 3 mornings a week, I am just having trouble finding that in the Dupont Circle area where I live. I would need it to be somewhat convenient or walking distance, so the nanny can pick up my son with #2 in tow. |
