for an IUI or IVF cycle when insurance pays for half of it? I am asking this because I read once that when insurance is involved, the clinics charge less...
If you had/have MDIPA (federal employee) at the time of your treatment, how much you had to spend out of the pocket? Thanks. |

I don't have an exact answer for you but I hope this helps a bit. I had zero coverage under my plan but dh had coverage for a few IUIs on his plan. I was trying to decide if it was worth it for me to switch to his plan for the IUI's. My clinic would charge me a total of $2500 for an injectable + IUI cycle (a "reduced" flat rate for those with no insurance) but when pressed the insurance lady said that typically that was more than it would cost if I paid half of the insurance rate. So I'd say less than $2500... but I don't know how much less. I ended up staying with my insurance anyway since the overall coverage was much better - so when I did get pg I didn't have to get sub-standard care!
Good luck to you. |

I have the MDIPA IVF paperwork from Shady Grove in front of me.
Member's share of IVF is $3,200. This does not include ICSI ($465), Assisted hatching ($265) or cryoperservation ($1360). ALso does not include meds which come to another few hundred in copays. Also does not include any required pre-tests (mock embryo transfer/fluid sonogram, cycle day 3 blood work, etc) which add up to about another $500. IUIs appear to be $625 each with one monitoring visit and without meds. Additional monitoring visits are about $130 each. I think most IUIs have 3ish monitoring visits so the cost of an IUI would be around $825. Hope this helps! The do indeed have contracted rates which are lower than the self pay rates. |
| I am not the OP but I am considering injectables and was wondering: how much do injectables alone cost when your insurance does not cover it at all? |
|
For my last IUI (mix of clomid + 4 Gonal F + Trigger + progest. ) cost us 500.00 (insurance covered the pills...so that was only for the injectables).
I heard and read that meds for an IFV cycle can go from 3 to 5k. |
| I paid $280 for 2 shots of Gonal F + the trigger (insurance covered the clomid and progesterone, and I had 1 shot of Gonal F left over). |
| I am the PP who asked about the cost of injectables -thanks for your answers! |

PP here. It pays to shop around for meds. Freedom Pharmacy by far had the best price for Gonal-F, by well over a hundred dollars compared to others (like $239 vs. $379). Their trigger shot (Ovidrel) was also a lot less than some ($44 vs. $74 at other places). Mandell's told me that they could compete with Follitism (another form of FSH) for $238, but their trigger shot was $79 so I went with Freedom. There also is a European based on-line pharmacy, IVFMeds.com, that had the best prices, although with the higher shipping fees it wasn't worth it for me to order from them. If I do IVF and need many more meds, then I will consider using them.
Other online pharmacies I called were Schrafts (Walgreens), Alexander's in NJ, Burmans in PA, and IVPCare. HTH! |
| Thanks PP! |
| I used MDIPA at 50% in 2008. I went to Columbia and my share of IVF was $2800. My IVF meds cost about $150/cycle. |
