| DS, almost 9, goes through phases where he is just fine, then goes for months wetting himself daily. He has ADHD, Asperger's and many sensory issues. He is in multiple therapies right now (has been for several years). The one thing that has not resolved is the not realizing when he has to urinate (he can go for months being ok, then suddenly not ok). We had a potty watch (not the potty watch brand) that DS used for awhile over a year ago. It broke. I cannot remember the brand it was. Can anyone recommend a watch with multiple alarm settings to remind my DS to use the bathroom throughout the day? |
| The Timex Ironman line has three alarms. Is that enough? |
OP here. That should be. It's really just needed for school. At home and on the weekends we end up doing the reminding. |
| Have you checked for constipation with a x-ray preferably. It took my Aspie forever to pee train and it turned out it was b/c he was constipated and his large intestine was pressing into his bladder and it messed up the signals. Did not feel when his bladder was full. Once the constipation was cleared up and everything shrunk back into place, no accidents or problems. |
OP here. BTDT. No constipation. I wish that was the answer (believe me). |
| Also, OP, try to cue him at natural times, like before leaving the house, upon coming home, before a meal/bedtime. I would also leave up a visual schedule. Even if reading isn't an issue, having reminders posted would probably help him. |
Thanks, OP here. We do cue at natural times. We have to go back to a visual schedule. We also do incentives (unfortunately that is what drives DS the best). He is aware that he is doing it and regrets it after the fact, but says he doesn't feel it until it's to late (when at school). At home we do remind him (read: insist he goes) to use the bathroom every couple of hours. |
Hey, whatever works says the mom of a kid with Asperger's who got her kid potty trained using not M&Ms but money, real money. Cost us about $50.
