Ordering SAT Superscore

Anonymous
I am finding the SAT website to be incredibly confusing. If I want to order the superscore for my DC, will the order form walk me through it or is there some secret way I'm supposed to figure this out? the website says what a superscore is but doesn't explain specifically how to order it.

Also, the free reports are only if you sign up for them before your child takes the test? So confusing.

The site will highlight the top scores in each section. You need to send all the results from that particular test date. Just click on the date, it's pretty intuitive when you get to that page. So for example, my DC took it 3 times. The highest score occurred across 2 of the 3 times. Those are the two tests we sent.

The colleges themselves will do the super scoring. It's also on the common app.

Just an FYI if you are sending for 11/1 deadlines you should probably get rush "shipping". At least one of my DCs EA schools requires that the results are actually received by 11/1.

We were actually told by my DC's college counselor not to do the rush shipping. Strangely enough the "rush" scores are mailed rather the normal electronic transfer. Therefore, the "rushed" SAT scores can get caught sitting in the mailroom of the college your child is applying….sounds odd to me, but that's what we were advised.

OK now I'm confused about the SAT II scores. I want to send past tests and a upcoming test scores (DC is applying ED) and I can't for the life of me confirm on the website that this has been done. Is there a place where I can check exactly whats been ordered? I really, really hate this website.

I got an email confirmation that the scores had been ordered and exactly which ones went to which schools. This covered both SATs and subject tests as I did them all at once. I assume that info is in DCs account on the website too. I didn't try a future test as we waited until the scores from the October test were in to choose which to send.

DD did not send any scores the first and second times she took the SAT. But for the Oct test, she ordered scores sent to 6 schools (4 free). Now her college board account says they sent all three scores from all three test dates to all 6 schools. So there was no picking and choosing scores. I thought College Board did the super scoring and only sent the highest score from each section from any sitting. So I'm confused but at least the scores were sent in time for her nov 1 deadlines.

I think you are confusing Score Choice with super scoring. Score choice means you can send results from particular test dates, whereas in the old days all results would be listed. It does need to be all the results from that particular date though. Super scoring is what the colleges supposedly look at -which is the highest combination of scores.

We didn't do any of the free reports because you can't do score choice that way. Turns out to have been a good decision as the October test was not an improvement so we didn't send in those results.

Yes, thanks for the clarification regarding Super Choice. I'll just note that from the college apps I've seen, the colleges have insisted that DD send every score from every sitting and they would super score themselves. (One college even had a specific averment DD had to sign that every score from every test "ever attempted" was submitted. This was enough for her to dig up an ACT she bombed early in junior year and send that as well.)

OK, I'm OP and I clearly was confused about super choice and super score. Seriously, this is confusing.

Oh gosh, you are still just a bit confused on the language. It's "Score Choice" -- the ability to pick and choose which tests go to some colleges (some allow it; others do not) -- and "Super Scoring" -- the practice of almost all colleges (including those who do not participate in score choice) to take the highest result of each portion of the SAT I taken on different days and put them together to get the applcants best overall score. It is that super score which I understand colleges use when they report their SAT score ranges -- so super scoring allows colleges to look like their students have higher scores than many earned on a single administration of the test. I have never heard the term Super Choice" -- but I can certainly see how one can be confused by this the first time through.
