apply to middle school magnet programs if out of state for the year?

Hi. We are interested in the Eastern and TP middle school programs for our kid, who is in 4th grade and in a HGC. But we are also considering a short-term opportunity that means we'd be living out of state next year during the school year. How can 5th graders apply if they are not in the MCPS system for the year? Hard to imagine that the system wouldn't have a way to allow out of staters to apply, given how transient our society is, particularly if the kid has always been in the system previously, right?

I think it would be hard. They have a system where kids from private schools can apply, but they're still residents. Are you going to rent your house out or move completely? Are you still paying taxes in MoCo and are you still a MD resident?

Yes we'd rent out the house and still pay property taxes.

You would have to bring your child back for the test .... but I don't see why you couldn't do it otherwise, if you still had a primary residence in MoCo.
