DD is really in to art and her current school (preK) has one project each day as do some of the privates (K-3) our friends' children attend. What's the situation at MCPS?

My K daughter has art class once a week. however, I know they draw in the classroom as part of their writing/reading assignments. |
Art in public school?
Ha. One 30min class a week and both of my kids find it incredibly boring. |
Besides art class, My son does tons of art projects in aftercare plus there is a lot of drawing in the regular classroom. And the school offers an afterschool art club for a fee. |
Our school's art teacher tends to give longer term projects that the kids work on over time. There are usually two big projects per year that they often get extra art time to finish. Also, there art class is art education, not only doing art. They learn about color, composition, etc as well as art history. |
Both of my kids have had outstanding art teachers. Art is 50 minutes once a week. |
I don't know about full-fledged projects, but my daughter is bringing home at least one drawing per day from her K class. |
My K has one 50 minute art class per week (it's a special).
They do lots of coloring and drawing during the rest of the day though. And, so 'art-like' projects. |
Our kids have had a superb art teacher too. I admit 50 minutes a week is not enough, but when kids were not able to finish their projects, this teacher allowed them to come to her art room after class and helped them to finish their work. Also PTA offered various types of art-related events/enrichment classes throughout the school year, some are with fees but most are free of cost. These events/classes are very popular. |
And it's art class. Learning about art and artists and composition. No exactly creating art for the 50 min. (and think about how much time those large classes take to settled in, learn, do, then clean-up).
