Holiday shopping (spinoff) - great gift recommendations and/or deals?

Every year I find myself stumped for good gifts for a variety of random family members and hoped to tap into the endless wisdom of the DCUM community for good ideas and/or tips on great deals out there... I'm hoping to get the shopping done early and as much online as possible since I've got a far-flung family to buy for but due to kids, pregnancy, job, life have limited time and patience for the mall. So if you have any gift ideas that have gone over well this year or in the past, throw them out there... Thanks!!

I was just about to post the same thing! More specifically I am looking for five-year-old girl gift ideas. This is a lean year for us...

I am going on Amazon.com and getting everybody on my list a paperback I think they will like. And a bottle of wine to go with it. That's my idea of a fun evening and if you buy six bottles of wine at a time at Safeway, you get 10% off. I think their prices on wine are good to begin with anyway.

For my five year old, this year I am focusing on art supplies and musical instruments. She's got a bedroom full of toys, Littlest Pet Shop, Barbies, My Little Pony.... ugh. I hate the girly, plasticy, Made in China stuff. So I am taking a different approach this year.

For example a recorder (like a flute) is not expensive, nor is a little instruction book to go with it. I am getting two, one for me to demonstrate on. I am also looking at the half-sized guitars, her dad plays a little and they can do this together I hope. Maybe a yukelele? (easiest string instrument to play).


I went to AC Moore today and was surprised at how good the prices seemed.
