prenatal yoga ok if you've never taken yoga?!

OK, I realize I am probably the last person on the face of the earth who has never tried yoga...! I am interested in starting now but didn't know if was a bad idea because I've never taken before.

Any suggestions on a good studio in Bethesda or nearby would be greatly appreciated.

I'd never taken a yoga class before and took prenatal yoga. Just let the teacher know. If the class includes women in various stages of pregnancy, which I assume most classes would, the teacher is going to be modifying some of the poses anyway, depending on where you are in your pregnancy.

I'm not familiar with yoga classes in Bethesda, though, so I can't make any recommendations there.

No problem at all. Pre-natal yoga is so slow - it's honestly just new stretches and breathing options, rather than some intense sequence of poses.

Plus, based on my experience (pre-natal yoga at Va. Hospital Ctr.), most moms in the class either had never done yoga or were not super active to begin with (in terms of going to the gym/working out), so the class was designed to accommodate them and was very slow and instructional. You'll be fine.

Pregnancy is a perfect time to try yoga. I had never tried it before and decided to give it a shot. Im pregnant with my 2nd child and it's been very relaxing and i find myself looking forward to it every week. Circle Yoga in Chevy Chase has a two classes a week and the instructers are great.

I'm wondering when would be the best time to start?

Anytime is good to start. There are moms-to-be in my class from 8 weeks to 9 months.

OP here--thank you all so much. I worried I'd be lost (or that it might even be dangerous) but I could certainly use a little relaxation....!

I was one of the few people in my prenatal class who had taken yoga before being pregnant, so you will certainly be fine. people seem to start at any time, although i think next time i'd start around 12-15 weeks
