Baby's first haircut

Anonymous
My baby is 16 months old and is ready for his first haircut. Any suggestions on where to go?

I've had good luck at Cartoon Cuts-- the Thomas the Train videos stopped my son from squirming for a least a few minutes!

Where do you live? Eclips Kids in McLean is good for a first haircut--they give you a little certificate and a nice lock of hair for the baby book.

After the first one my son wouldn't sit for a haircut so now I just do it myself. Most of the times it looks okay

I second the Cartoon Cuts - they did a great job and did the same with the certificate and section of cut hair for baby books.

I third Cartoon Cuts in Fair Oaks mall. My son, also 16 months, just had his first haircut there. He cried his way through it, and they were very understanding and the lady cutting his hair worked very quickly.

I had a terrible experience with carton cuts, but I know plenty that have not. If you live any where near Alexandria there is a great place called Bradley's Barbershop in the Bradleys center on King street. They have a car, horse and truck to sit in. Very good with little boys. They even give a cert. for first haircut. very cute.

I usually go to cartoon cuts but probably won't anymore. I felt the lady rushed us through the process and wasn't exactly pleasant towards the end. Granted, my 3 year old cries throughout the process just about, but isn't that what I pay the extra dollars for?

Anyone with good experience with hair cuttery or another less expensive place? Eclips is nice for adults but you do pay $$$ for it.

If you live in MD, I highly recommend The Yellow Balloon in the Kentlands. I didn't have a great experience at Cartoon Cuts - they cut my DD's hair. At The Yellow Balloon, they actually styled it too! Much better than the "bowl cut" she received at Cartoon Cuts

Any suggestions in DC? thanks!

You could always cut it yourself. (I'm not trying to be snarky, but wouldn't this work?)

I also did not have a great experience with Cartoon Cuts in Fair Oaks mall. It might depend on who does the cutting though. I went all the way out there on a recommendation from a coworker that they did a great job on her granddaughter. She said they made a big deal out of it and put a clip in her hair afterward. The guy we had wasn't very nice and had no patience. He didn't even wet her hair and didn't "style" it at all. The cut itself was also not very good.

I highly recommend Irene at Cartoon Cuts Fair Oaks. She is wonderful with the kids, and does a nice job cutting and styling their hair.

We had a really bad experience at Tysons'Cartoon Cuts. I have twins and we had been going for a while, but one lady freaked both of my boys out. The one which never cried was scared to death. His twin is a bit more ...against having his haircut, and she cut his ear, then his neck. Needless to say we do not go anymore. I find a barber around the corner in the Lee Harrison shopping center they both love!

The two recs I've heard in DC: barber shop on Wisconsin near the Sullivan's Toy store (around the corner on Newark), and Camillo's Barber Shop a little farther up near the Tenley metro. Heard they both cut alot of kids (boys) hair. Not sure they "style" it...mostly buzz cuts, but they are great with the kids.
