Betas and multiples

Anonymous
I've just received my 2nd beta. 1st was 11dp5dt (16dpo) and it was 1278. I thought twins for sure, but the 2nd beta didn't double, it was 2353 (48 hours later).

My betas have never come near these numbers (all ended in m/c and 1 ectopic). Praying for a sticky bean (or two!)

I don't have my numbers in front of me (in my now shuttered office on a pad) but at 10dp4dt mine was close to yours and I was really (REALLY) nervous when they didn't double 2 days later (the doubling rate was at the very bottom of what most people say is an acceptable rate ... maybe something like 70%). My RE said not to panic and that after years and years he's learned not to try and predict much of anything based on original values and doubling times.

Anyway, currently 22 weeks with twins so that lack of doubling wasn't a problem after all (though, of course, I won't feel out of the woods until they are healthy and in my arms).

That should be 10dp5dt.

You could have had two implant early on and then only one is proceeding normally, which would explain the number not doubling. My clinic said that scenario is not uncommon.

...have no correlation between them.

We have twins and our betas were high average. My now-adult niece had astronomical betas that were higher than our twins and she was still a singleton (they thought she was twins for other reasons, but she still turned out to be a normal singleton).

I don't think they need to double after two thousand. You should be able to tell on sono. Does your RE have one scheduled for this week? Good luck!

Agreed, I think after 1200, doubling time is more like 72-96 hours. At your current level they can see something on a sono.

Trust the magic wand, not the beta!

OP here, whew! Thanks for the reassurances! I go next week for a sono.

Betas don't need to double within 48 hours; most clinics just want to see at least a 60% increase in 48 hours. You are well within that range--GL!

I was 87 5dp5dt and I was doubling about every 36 hours...or a little less. Identical twins.

My betas were pretty average, but we ended up with identical twins. I agree with the others that you can't read too much into betas.
