What's involved in getting tubes tied?

Is it a procedure that can be done in the OB's office or a surgery you are put under for?
Is it painful?
Is there a recovery period?

I'm 100% done having kids and am sure I want to go this route, just want to know what to expect.

Had mine done. Put under. Feels like a muscle pull - it's done laparoscopically. I didn't take anything more than regular Tylenol for a day or two. Had it done on a Thursday and was driving to Cape Cod on Sunday.

I was put under, too. Day surgery and I was home by 2 I think. I was sore with limited movement for one day (still drove though) and nothing used for pain. Took maybe three days to be back to 100%. There are different methods for "tying tubes", I have plastic clips that pinch my tubes on both sides.
