Depression in men vs women- symptom difference- PLEASE READ

Anonymous
In looking for answers to my husbands behavior, I came across this link that REALLY hit home for me. The anger that I could not make sense of at all (probably because Ive known depressed men -friends only- who did not show the anger symptom, at least not to me) is laid out VERY plainly here complete with stages. Its the STAGES part that REALLY fits.

Its an OMG "that fits better than anything Ive heard or read yet" moment for me. For anyone here dealing with an angry depressed male partner/spouse, Please please read this. The anger stage is a perilous one, which wont come as a shocker to any of us in the trenches with it!

It definitely includes anger. Anger out of the blue. Anger at apparently regular little things. Anger with no explanation which is resistant to reason. I have seen this from experience.

While interesting its very vague, to imply that all angry men are depressed is just ridiculous and irresponsible. My husband has a temper but is at the same time one of the happiest people I know.

There has been lots of recent research on depression in men. Anger alone is not enough to be diagnosed as depressed, but it is the most prevalent mood symptom in men - versus sad, overwhelmed and negative mindset in women. Both can also experience depression as empty, numb, indifferent, apathetic. It is just important for people to know that there are many ways that depression can present and anger along with other symptoms is a common one in men. Other symptoms more common in men are aggression, substance abuse and risk taking.
