I have a family member in a high position, has been working for the government for 10+ years, yet I have no "in" with her. The only tip I get is apply through usajobs, which I've been doing for the last few years with no luck.
So how did you find your job? |
I applied through USAJobs.
Dual-Fed family here. I got a Presidential Management Fellowship coming out of grad school. My husband applied through USA Jobs for his position at a different agency.
Usajobs. Didn't know a soul in my agency.
I applied Through USA jobs, but it was years ago. All of our more recent hires are people we already knew when a job opened up-a former intern, people from NGOs we worked with, people who had done details from other agencies, or who had come in for informational interviews when they started their job searches and stayed in touch over the years or found ways to collaborate. Of course, we haven't been able to hire anyone from outside for a few years, just move people around within our agency so my experience is moot anyway.
I've gotten three federal attorney jobs over the years. I got all three by applying through USAJobs each time. No ins for me. The only people I've known who got federal jobs through connections were at FDA.
I applied through USA Jobs. I was living 1/2way across the country and knew no one at my agency.
USAJobs as well. Didnt know anyone at my agency.
I got it in college, they had a recruiter come to our career office. I came in on a recent grad program.
USAjobs. the advice I was given was that it does work but it's a numbers game.
I was a PMF.
USA jobs. Applied for a year to anything and everything. Got one job offer as a program analyst, but knew I was overqualified and would be bored. Ultimately held out and accepted an atty position and I've been really happy ever since. GL
This is us exactly too. |
Started as a contractor, and the position was eventually converted to a fed position.
I applied through USAJOBS, but hiring managers knew me for both offers I received. I work in a specialized field where most people practice within a small circle. I rarely see anyone hired that isn't within the circle.
