Volunteering with kids in DC

I would like to begin volutneering with the kids - 5 and 6.5 yrs old. Obviously, the holidays are coming and we'd like something to do together where the kids can really understand that they are helping people.

I would love to get a name or letter and age of a child so they can buy a holiday gift for the child (with their own allowance money). I know NY Cares does a Wishes program - does anyone know if DC does something similar?

Also - ongoing opps for us.
