What's the story with McDaniel College?

I have a friend who went there and it was a big party school mostly because there isn't much else to do in the area.

It used to be the College of Western Maryland but rebranded itself. Isn't Sewanee another school that rebranded?

My mom went there in the '70s, back when it was called Western Maryland College, although I doubt her experience is relevant to how it is today. At the time, she felt kind of trapped because it was a small school with everyone from Maryland (she grew up in PG county, and my grandparents didn't want her to go out of state, and she felt like going to the University of Maryland had too many people from her high school).

My DD's friends attend. They like it, but I do know they go home every weekend or every other weekend. So, it's sort of a school with suitcase community.
