My 20 month old isnt sleeping well and puts her blanket under her head. wondering if a pillow would help but i wasnt sure when kids start using them. thoughts?
Sure, go ahead. My kids slept with a pillow when they were a little over a year old. But they usually fall off some point during the night and end up sleeping just on the bed part.
Get a travel sized one to start with. Find at that age. Kmart and other stores have them.
Now is fine.
I started letting my son sleep with a pillow pretty early - 15 months or so...It is not too fluffy, but it is regular twin size - it is pretty much as wide as the crib, which I think is more comfortable than a toddler size pillow which he kept sliding off of. But if you want to try a toddler size pillow, Ikea has a cheap one in their baby section.
Check out the "Angel Dear" pillows. You can find them on Amazon. Good size for toddlers.
We got a toddler pillow at IKEA for my son when he was about 20 months old. I lay him down on it every night but he generally ends up not using it. However, he pulls it around the crib with him and talks about "my pillow" so I know he likes having it in there.
I wondered if a toddler could use a pillow to help get out of the crib? Step on it to get some extra height to crawl out of crib. I wondered, didn't fret about it. She didn't like the pillow.
My son really loves his pillow, we gave it to him around 14 months and he's almost 2 now. It's the closest thing he has to a lovey.

We started using a toddler pillow (Ikea one, which is very flat) when DC was about 2 years old and had by that point transitioned out of a crib. Over time, we switched to using a slightly puffier toddler pillow - don't recall the brand, just bought it off of Amazon.
Friends of ours swear by "pillow pets" for their toddlers -- kind of a cross between a stuffed toy and a pillow that kids snuggle up with in bed. |
